DRAWING & PAINTING
Students will learn the basic principles of art and design by drawing with charcoal and pastels from life. Through a progressive series of subjects, students build skills at their own pace. When students demonstrate proficiency with basic drawing techniques, they may move on to oil painting. Using direct observation, they will explore the technical aspects of the medium and how to apply their acquired drawing skills. Prior experience with drawing is required to begin oil painting. Intended for children aged 10 and up, as well as older students preparing for advanced study in art.

OPEN STUDIO - MIXED MEDIA
This class allows students the opportunity to explore and experiment with a variety of fine art media. Acrylic painting, ceramics, and mixed media sculpture will be available, and group interaction /co-creating will be encouraged.
The studio will also be open to students in our Drawing and Painting and College Portfolio classes to use for independent study.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lessons are recommended for younger students and adults, or anyone looking for a 1:1 experience. These classes are tailored to the individual skill-level. goals, interests, and special needs of the student. Drawing with pencil, charcoal, and pastels as well as watercolor and oil painting are offered. Sculpture and mixed media are also explored. Semi-private lessons (2 students) are also available.
Private lesson schedules are arranged with the instructor. Lessons begin at $65/hour, and may be purchased in packages. Materials fees will vary based on medium, but generally a beginner's drawing supplies will cost approximately $75.

COLLEGE PORTFOLIO PREP
This is a new offering at Heartspace for high schoolers!
Drawing from observation is an essential skill that is foundational to any visual art form. This type of work is integral to college applicants' portfolios, and reviewers report that it is becoming less and less prevalent as digital media gains popularity. In this class we will focus on drawing and painting from life in charcoal, pencil, and pastel. A portfolio review is offered in advance of the first class along with recommendations for augmentation. Lessons will be tailored to students' needs.

THERAPEUTIC ART SESSIONS
Art making is a highly effective tool to build important social-emotional skills while relieving stress and anxiety. These sessions are process-based, and tailored to the individual's needs and goals, and are strictly 1:1. Caregivers will be involved in the planning and review of the student's progress. Goals may include - but are certainly not limited to - frustration tolerance, emotional regulation, increasing self-esteem, and developing mindfulness skills.
During my 10-year career as a Creative Arts Therapist, I had the opportunity to work with clients of all ages, with a wide range of social, developmental, psychiatric, and sensory challenges. I am also fluent in American Sign Language, and welcome members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, as well as those with visual impairments. Please note that Heartspace Gallery & Studio is not accessible to those with significant mobility challenges, but I will happily travel to your home for our sessions.
